This is a great cooktop. I like the spacing of the burners, and the heat is evenly distributed. I would tell new owners who are used to timing certain dishes on their old cooktop to be aware of timing changes for the first couple of uses. If you made rice a certain way before, it might take less time so be aware of that. It's a great cooktop and we love it!

Even though we love the range top, the optional grate could be improved.
1. It is very heavy! I'm sure GE could reduce the weight slightly to be more manageable. I is difficult to handle when washing.
2. The worst part that the surface is very rough, more than a good cast iron skillet. Even using oil or Pam it is very difficult to cook eggs, for an example

I have trusted and purchased GE products for decades. They are reliable, have a clean design, are well-serviced when needed, and long lasting. I am not a fan of bright, shiny stainless steel appliances so was thrilled GE continued to make handsome, dark-colored appliances with latest technology. This GE cooktop is 1000% better than the Whirlpool top installed in house when it was built three years ago. I love the grate system that is seamless so that you can easily move pots and pans across it. I love the placement of the simmer bummer and that there is more than one large burner available. The lighted dials are a great safety feature in that you can see that a burner is on even if you don't notice the gas flame. My two comments at this time are with its description. 1) We understood that the cooktop metal was "black stainless steel" which is different than metal painted black. We had recently purchased a GE refrigerator which is gorgeous and was described as black stainless steel. So we expected the same with the cooktop - but it is not. The only part that looks like black stainless steel are the knobs. 2) The surface states it is fingerprint resistant. Now I know that resistant does not mean there will be no fingerprints but this cooktop does not clean up well even if you use a soft sponge with very hot water and even if you wipe it down with a clean towel (paper or cloth) after wiping with wet sponge or cloth. It's near impossible to control the smudging and streaking that occurs while cleaning it with clear hot water which has worked on every other appliance surface. So other than those two items, I am pleased with it, people are very complimentary of it when they see it, it's been a welcome addition to our kitchen. Now just to save enough money to replace the oven and dishwasher with new GE appliances!

I have been without a gas cooktop for close to 10years, I chose this product for its features that I was looking for as well as price. It was a great value compared to other similar products....I wanted top mount dials so they were less likely to get messed with or leaned on by people/children. It is easy to clean and I do so a few times a week.

Description states "black stainless" so you would think it's the dark grey brushed look like other appliances.... but no. It's stainless steel... that's painted gloss black. As in, it's just black. Little deceiving and does not match our other appliances. So if you want just "black", this is the one.

This cooktop is well built and looks great! It replaces a GE Profile Cooktop (Black) we installed 15 years ago, which still worked fine. We were attracted to the heavy duty design of the new grill, as our cooktop and ovens get above average use. The LED lighted burner knobs are also an excellent safety feature. Virtually impossible to leave a burner on unintentionally. Highly recommend this product.

Does not match the rest of GE black stainless!

36" black stainless gas cooktop was just installed, well over a month after our other black stainless GE appliances were, and we are questioning our decision of keeping the cooktop as it DOES NOT MATCH THE REST OF OUR BLACK STAINLESS GE APPLIANCES!!! Beware that it does not look like the photo that is on the website - it is a GLOSSY BLACK with black stainless knobs. I was told by the 2 installers, my salesman and 2 customer service reps that this is indeed their black stainless (but is instead a glossy black). GE calls it black stainless since they put black stainless knobs on it. I was also told that this is how it is made so that it can withstand the intense heat of a gas cooktop. So then why do they show a matching black stainless as an option and even show a black stainless model on the website if the cooktop can not withstand the heat, is not a true black stainless and is actually a glossy black?

Difficult to clean the burner grates due to the abrasiveness of material. Still trying to find the proper cleaner for the enamel so it doesnt smear.
