I had the older model of opal ice maker it was a better machine. I gave it to my son because one of my grandchildren has health issues and needs the ice for hydration. I just want a refund and return this machine to be able to purchase the model I had before. This one never worked the way it should and has stopped working completely now. So disappointed with GE not receive information any resolution.

The first two weeks were great but now it goes into defrost mode daily and has to be power cycled to get it out. I've tried the clean cycle and that is not fixing the issue. This may be going back to the retailer soon.

This is an excellent ice machine. Perfect soft and crunchy ice nuggets. It will fill the bin in right around 2 hours and I have weighted it out at 1.6 to1.7 lbs for a full bin. Not too bad to clean and descale. It would be nice if it came with a funnel to make this job easier. Really like the app for controlling the unit and so far has worked great. Not too loud. It would be amazing if it could be hooked into a water line, but I am sure GE would have done this by now if it were feasible. Perfect addition to the summer!

How to make this ice maker better? By 3D printing a custom lid on the side tank and installing a float on a RO water line. So now my opel has constant RO water ans didnt cut or void warranty by designing a lid to 3D print. Made with 100% infill, so it is solid.

I was so excited to for this ice maker but in the end it was a disappointment. I followed the directions for setup exactly as the manual stated and talked with a tech support person to ensure it was set up properly. It would make about half a glass of ice and then say defrosting for and hour before resuming making another half glass of ice.

Makes great ice when you can get it, which is not very often! Got it for memorial day weekend. Had to got the store get ice after 1 day. You turn it on, starts making ice within 15 minutes as advertised but then goes into defrost mode within 45 minutes and no longer dispenses ice. Sometimes it gets out of the defrost mode and makes ice again but most of the time it stays stuck in it until you unplug and restart. In 3 weeks of use, I saw the sign indicating that the ice bin was full only once, not sure why one day it worked really well. The instructions provided are not very good at all. The website troubleshooting is a little better but not much. I did everything they recommended, clean cycle, move the machine, make sure there is plenty of room around it for air flow but I suspect this is a design flaw. I returned it, got a brand new one, same exact problem. Opal support takes 3 business day to respond each time they send you a response and if you call it does not speed things up at all. If you need a part it takes 2-3 wks if they have it stock. Forget it, sending second one back!

I was so excited to get this new ice maker so I wouldn't have to use the ice scooper. I had the opal 2.0 wifi. It worked ok for a few days and then it started freezing. It would go into defrost mode for 20 +hours. I would have to unplug and plug it back in to get it working again. I would get ice for about 3 hours and it would go back into defrost mode. Very disappointed.

I've had the original model of the Opal for 2 years and loved it. It began to leak and it was out of the warranty period so I decided to upgrade to the newest opal model. Although it's a great looking machine, I'm not at all impressed by it. You can't see how much ice is in the bin because it dispenses with the push of a button. That part is great but it only dispenses about 6 oz of ice at a time. Very frustrating!!! Now it has started making a horrendous grinding noise a couple times a day and the only way to stop it is to unplug the machine. I called customer service and they asked me to send a video of the noise. I'm not sure why they think the amount of ice it dispenses is not a problem. I sent the video 2 days ago and have yet to hear anything.

Brand new machine, using distilled water, plenty of air space all around it, but it goes into defrost mode within 30 minutes, and then stays in it (including overnight) until you unplug it to start the whole process over. Even when it works, you can barely get a single cupful of ice before it runs out. Really disappointing and will be sending it back unless there is something that can be done to fix the issue.

I love the nugget ice that is made by this machine and the new concept of ice delivery, however it already makes a screeching sound and is less than a month old. Periodically, this incredibly loud screeching sound occurs that requires the icemaker to be unplugged for several hours and then plugged back in, after which the Icemaker functions for a few more days until the situation recurs again. My second complaint is that this machine only makes very small batches of ice. There is usually only enough ice in the machine with the ice bin full, to fill up one glass of ice. Then the ice machine must make another batch of ice before filling up any more glasses of ice.

Where to begin, I had the first version Opal ice maker and it was THE best nugget ice maker. When friends and family would come over, they would look in aww that I had a machine that made "the good ice" Naturally when I saw a newer version available, I had to check it out. First thing I noticed is the amazingly sleek design - its gorgeous! Another great feature is the wifi capabilities, which is convenient, but the ultimate feature that I love is actually 2, the quietness and the fact it makes Waaaay more ice than my original Opal. If you're on the fence about price, I was able to finance thru affirm and my payments were super low and trust me, this machine is worth every penny.

I have used this machine for a month so far, so may be ready to write some reviews for others who are interested in this machine. Pros: 1. Ice quality: the quality of nugget ice is good. Feels great in mouth and easy to chew. 2. Appearance: looks good unless you see it in a close distance. (see the Cons below). Cons: 1. Appearance: if you look at this machine closely, you may feel it seems a bit flimsy. Front is made of plastic, which looks cheap. 2. Dispensing: it could be Pros, because it is more convenient than scoop. But the downside is, there is no way the user can find out the amount of available ice. Previous version has transparent window, but this new model doesn't. If GE wanted to make it with black plastic, they should make the SmartHQ app to provide an information of remaining ice. 3. Design Flaw of Side Tank: Idea of side tank is good, but the question is, is there any need to make the water cap at the bottom? In order to fill water in the side tank, users should take out entire side tank, turn upside down, open the cap, refill water, close the cap, and reinstall the side tank. Why? If the cap is located at the top, users can fill water simply from the top (like GE Espresso Machine). 4. Cleaning/Descaling: SmartHQ app started to show a warning sign, "Needs Cleaning", after 2 weeks of use. I tried to clean the machine following the manual. FYI, cleaning is another design flaw, I think. Is there any other way to make the cleaning/descaling process more convenient? Manuals says cleaning every once a week or two, but the cleaning process is really tedious and takes long (at least one hour or more). If GE recommend cleaning every once a week or two, they should consider a more convenient way of cleaning/descaling process. 5. SmartHQ app: This app is needed to install the machine, but after that, this app is not very useful. This app tells you either "Ice full" or "making ice", no further information. Another disappointing thing is the fact that this app tells you about "Needs Cleaning". I did cleaning process following the manual, but the warningn sign in the app was not turned off but remained still. There is no way to turn off this warning sign, so whenever I use the app, I should see the warning sign. I do not know this is a sensor issue in my machine or a glitch of the app, but either way, this is another annoying factor of this machine.

Directions are nonexistent. The app from GE sucks. The app from Haier is mediocre. Doing the cleaning is almost impossible mainly because the touchpad is not very sensitive nor does it give a great target area so that you know you're in the right area when nothing is happening when you're pressing where it says clean or power or light. Here are some things to think about GE. One have somebody who has the product with them using it every day write the instructions. Two have someone who doesn't have the product walk through the instructions and make sure they make sense. Three have another person try out the instructions and make sure they actually work as designed. For don't release an application or an appliance before it's ready. Five have resources available when your questions about the things you don't bother to put in an instruction booklet or video online outside of 9 to 5. One final thought I noticed when I was trying to find instructions on the ceiling that the previous unit have a light inside so that they could see where the fill line is. This is a big deal for the opal dispenser because it's all black in the area where you put in the water is about I'd say 8 inches by maybe 7 inches maybe it's 10" x 7" it's not very big that's my point and it's dark you can't use a picture to fill it you can't use most cups because the access point is too small to pour the water in this causes problems not only to fill it to clean it but to put your hand in to try to put in a new filter the filter again no instructions couple pictures and I think maybe arrows and I tried myself personally for an hour trying to get out the filter that's currently in the machine and I haven't been able to figure it out it doesn't pop out which is what they suggest and I feel like if I if I push any harder that it's gonna break something I tried to call but nobody works for help except when I'm at work.

The GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker Dispenser is a must have for entertaining, as well as everyday use. It uses a Wi-Fi app that allows you to schedule the ice. That is just brilliant! It requires no water hookup and can make ice in less than 30 minutes. It is compact and portable, so it is convenient to move, if needed. And who doesn't like the little nugget cubes. The dispenser is a very nice feature, so a scoop isn't needed. I highly recommend it.

There was quite a bit involved in trying to get this ice maker setup. One thing to note is it is very bulky. It doesn't fit on my counters due to how tall it is. Another thing I noticed is the ice that comes out is not very cold. The liquid in my cup seemed to melt the ice almost immediately.

Years ago our refrigerator waterline broke in the attic, and it's too much of a pain to go up and fix, so we have been buying and hauling bags of ice home. The GE Profile Opal ice maker is the perfect tool to fix all that. Getting the ice maker up and running is super simple. Most of the work was in cleaning the reservoir and side water tank for the first time. After that I could hear ice dropping within 15 minutes of starting the ice making process. The ice maker runs with very little noise. I was able to sit at the kitchen counter for work video meetings while it was running. The only negatives I have about the ice maker are in the instructions. Trying to figure out what "filter screen" to remove and replace with the water filter took some investigative skills and a flashlight. I've included a picture of where the filter goes (the filter screen to remove would be to the left side of the reservoir. It is very teeny). The instructions also do not mention removing the water line from the side tank to empty when cleaning, and only mentions removing the other line. I couldn't figure out why the reservoir would not fully drain because of this. Know you know, though, so all will be smooth for you! Highly recommend due to great quality ice! No more lugging heavy bags of ice that melt before getting home or cause huge chunks that can't be broken up. No more wasted money, time, and effort to have great ice!
