Extended warranties are usually very inexpensive and can save you thousands in the future. Some can even cover extra costs that result, such as cost of food that spoils when your fridge dies. It's simple and inexpensive to purchase extended warranties and one of the smartest ways to protect your investment.

Appliances can be large, heavy, and expensive and you probably don't have the special tools or expertise needed to fix them in a crisis. If you can spare a few thousand dollars without batting an eyelash for new appliances should they break tomorrow, don't buy a warranty. But if you're like most of us, protect yourself by purchasing inexpensive extended warranties when you buy a new product and save yourself big money in the long run.

Only half works on account of poor design

Submitted by MickeyM123 - The appliance uses a squirrel cage fan to draw air from the cooking area. The fan is located decidedly on the left half of the unit over the left grease filter. There are no plenum or integrated mechanical design features to balance supply air between the left and right grease filter intake vents. The result is that 80% (easily) of the air draw comes from the left grease filter area, and almost no draw from the right side filter area. If you're stuck with this hood or simply like it for the appearance, do your heavy cooking on the left side of your cook top when using the hood. The right side is useless. I'd have to go shopping to ID a better unit (mine was the builder's choice), but I'm certain I would never choose this one - and would not recommend it to anyone who actually expects/wants a hood that works more than halfway. (Review based on Model JVX5360EJES acquired in Jan 2020).

Watch out if you are tall

Submitted by Hankl - Builder instgalled it in my home and at the height that it was installed, if you are over 6 foot you'll hit your head on it. The design of the corners are not rounded enough or should be rubberized.

Functional; Looks Good

Submitted by kwix - I've only had this vent hood for a couple of months. So far it's fine -- but it's not amazing. It works, but its draw isn't remarkable, and at the lower levels is barely functional. (A 2x8 strip of newspaper will cling to the vent at top speed, but not at the lowest -- which implies to me very little draw.) What's worse is that the contact points of the light flap that rests atop the hood, and is intended to pivot open as needed, were made entirely of a very cheap pliable metal that bent and broke even after very gentle attempts to get it placed in the hood. I had to cobble together a functional version using a length of clothes hanger. It's attached to the flap with just duct tape, so we'll see how long it lasts. The whole vent hood assembly was extraordinarily difficult to install, but that's probably true of all vent hoods. It looks nice. And so far doesn't function badly; it just doesn't function notably well. I just wish they had put the same thought into its function as its looks.
